AUGUSTTom Trick's Unique Sunny Mark carinterrier

This is Säpo. His papers say Tom Trick's Unique Sunny Mark and although it's a nice name, Säpo is so much more cool. Cute and tough Säpo is a Cairn Terrier who turns two yerars this fall. "The reason I'm called Säpo is that my mother has a crime-themed name for all of us Cairn Terriers, the others are called Tjalla and Snoken," says our dog of the month.

Cairn Terriers originally come from Scotland, where the dog was used to protect the farm's lambs and chickens from foxes. The dog's small size meant that it was fast and agile when hunting small game and foxes hiding among rocks. The name carin means cairn in Gaelic and refers to the breed's use as a stew dog. The breed club describes the Cairn Terrier as small, social and robust, while also being a dog that is on its own terms. Forcing a Cairn Terrier to do something it doesn't want to do is not possible, so be prepared to compromise.

Säpo lives with his mother and three other dogs. "There are also about 20 rabbits, ten sheep and 15 chickens living here. Two cats help with the rats, but that's what I'm best at," says Säpo and continues, "we live in a house in the country with a huge garden to dig in." Säpo wasn't really supposed to move in with the family, but when mom came to visit, it clicked. Mom tells us about the first meeting: "there was a red male with an extra amount of charisma who started listening to Säpo so he had to come home with me."

Säpo loves to be hugged and he loves fighting toys "his favorite toy is a rabbit ball that you can throw and pull" says Säpo. Our dog of the month also tells us that he is very happy to go to dog shows "because then I get to spend a whole day with mom and just sit on my lap or cuddle by the ring" and mom fills in that they have done BPH so that Säpo will eventually be able to compete in tracking, but also obedience and maybe rally obedience.

"The best thing I know is of course to lie next to my mother on the sofa when she works from home," says Säpo. Then he continues, "Or to lie out in the garden on a table and keep watch. Then I love swimming no matter the season, and I'm also a fan of helping to keep the rats out of the stable."

"You know," says Säpo and then continues immediately, "I have to wear a life jacket when I swim, because I don't care about swimming back to shore again, I swim straight out into the lake without blinking. I also like rushing water and would like nothing more than to throw myself out even though my mother says it's dangerous. But that must be excessive!"
