From the UK comes the dog food Yora. It is an environmentally friendly and climate-smart dog food that tastes good for several reasons. Partly because it is tasty and contains all the benefits that the dog needs. But also because the food is reduces your dog's global footprint. Everyone who lives on earth needs to help reduce our environmental impact and make the planet feel better. One way is to give your dog nutritious and tasty food, but with less carbon dioxide emissions.
Yora small breed is specially developed for small dog breeds. The pieces are smaller, but the small balls still contain everything your little doggie needs to get a complete and balanced meal. So even if you have a small dog, it can contribute to a better world by eating environmentally friendly dog food.
Yora is based on fly larvae. That's what makes Yora friendlier to the planet. Traditional dry food consists of meat from chicken or cattle, and compared to larvae, the production of meat requires a very large area of land and large amounts of energy, fertilizer and water. See picture two, which shows the difference between the different protein sources. Another thing that makes Yora dog food more climate-smart is that the larvae produce almost no greenhouse gases.
WHAT ARE THE INSECTS IN YORA?
Hermetia illucens is the name of the insect found in Yora, in Swedish the insect larva is called the black soldier fly. By feeding on fruit and vegetable waste from the food industry, they contribute to reduced waste. When the larvae are finished eating, the remains have become natural compost that can be used to grow more food. Since the larvae grow quickly and do not create any harmful waste, their environmental impact is very small. The fact that the black soldier fly larva is also full of nutrients does not make matters worse.
The fly larvae used for Yora dog food grow quickly and naturally and therefore do not need growth hormones and they rarely suffer from any diseases that need to be treated. Therefore, the dry food does not contain either growth hormones or antibiotics.
Because the larvae are a non-traditional source of protein for dogs, many allergic dogs can eat Yora. And because insect protein is as easily digestible as chicken, this food can work great for dogs with sensitive stomachs.
In addition to insect larvae, Yora also contains oats and potatoes, prebiotics, blueberries and plant products, which gives a tasty food ball that tastes as good as it looks.
The food can of course also be used as treats for your dog. Just by changing your dog's food to a more environmentally friendly and sustainable treat, you and your dog will make a difference for our planet. Every step counts, even the small ones.
