DOG FOOD WITH LOW ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

  • Produced in the Nordics
  • Based on insect larvae
  • Grain free
A dog is not particularly environmentally friendly, but something can be done about it. One way is to give your best friend a good and nutritious dog food that is also better for the planet. By switching to this dry food, you can reduce your dog's climate footprint by up to 84%. From Finnish Alvar comes the dog food known as zero-emission dry food. The dog food itself is not emission neutral, but raw materials, packaging and transport have been chosen based on its environmental impact and the remaining emissions are climate compensated. The Alvar Bug is based on insects, the black soldier fly or Hermetia illucens which is its Latin name. The small fly larvae are full of benefits, which makes the nutritional value good. The larvae used for Alvar's dog food grow quickly completely naturally and therefore do not need growth hormones and they rarely suffer from any diseases that need to be treated with antibiotics. The insects are dried and made into flour, which makes the food pellets look like any other dog food. Other ingredients in this grain-free dry food include peas and potatoes. Both of these have also been chosen because they have a low carbon footprint. Alvar Bug is a complete complete feed that contains everything your dog needs to ingest. Here are omega fatty acids that are good for intestinal and skin health, as well as antioxidants that support the immune system. Since the larvae are a non-traditional protein source for dogs, many vets recommend insect-based dog food for allergic dogs or doggies with sensitive stomachs. SIZE Available in three different sizes of feed sacks: 2, 6 and 10 kg. The round flat pieces are about 15 mm in size. This premium food is for adult dogs (over 12 months) and is suitable for all breeds. FEEDING Each dog is unique and eats a different amount depending on age, activity and appetite. We suggest that you start according to the guide and then adjust according to the dog's needs. Also remember to let the doggy have access to fresh drinking water. HANSESGÅRDEN TIPS Our assortment includes more products from Alvarpet. Here you can find, among other things, dog treats made of larvae and quickly chewed bones made from dried fish skin. THIS IS WHY WE CALL IT CLIMATE SMART The feed is based on fly larvae. As the insects live on fruit and vegetable residues from the food industry, they contribute to reduced wastage. In addition, add that the larvae largely do not produce any greenhouse gas, which means that their own environmental impact is very small. In order to raise the insect larvae, minimal water, land area and feed are required, which means that its impact on the climate is significantly lower compared to other protein sources (such as chicken or beef) that can be used in dog food. As for the potato, it has 15 times less emissions than rice, which is otherwise commonly found in dog food. As the distance to the raw materials also affects the environment, Alvarpet has chosen ingredients from the local area. The insects come from the Netherlands, while the potatoes and peas come from Finland or one of the other Nordic countries. The dog food factory is located in Denmark.
